Located along the banks of the Day River is the quaint village of Hiep Thuan, a suburb of Hanoi.  Known as one of the best mulberry producing districts in all of southern Asia due to it’s temperate micro-climate.  Villagers here celebrate the start of summer with the annual two week mulberry harvest usually  in early April.  The variety grown here is the black mulberry, though the trees bear fruit of multiple colors, as the color of the fruit does not identify the species.  These black mulberries are large, juicy and succulent.  They possess a nice tart sweetness that is somewhat reminiscent of grapefruit.
